BUCHAREST, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Newly appointed interim Prime Minister Catalin Predoiu pledged on Tuesday that the government will function within constitutional limits during the interim period, ensuring continuity in public administration and economic stability.
According to a government statement, Predoiu officially took office on Tuesday under Presidential Decree No. 623.
"This interim mandate takes place in an important electoral context," Predoiu said, adding that the government will operate with transparency and legality to safeguard citizens' right to vote, as seen in the recent presidential election.
He also reaffirmed the government's openness to dialogue with social partners, investors, and international allies despite its temporary status.
Predoiu was named interim prime minister on Tuesday, following the resignation of Marcel Ciolacu, who stepped down on Monday after the ruling Social Democratic Party withdrew from the governing coalition. Under Romania's Constitution, an acting prime minister may remain in office for up to 45 days. ■
